The De Trafford Story
Set on the majestic Mont Fleur farm, bought by the De Trafford family in 1976, at the top of a Stellenbosch valley, vineyards were planted in 1994 carefully choosing varieties to match the soils. The high slopes of the farm, initially bought as grazing land, is perfectly suitable for high quality red grape varieties. Winemaker and owner David Trafford, who is a qualified Architect, gained experience in St Emilion, France, where he worked a harvest and proclaims that the winemaking profession chose him. He puts the emphasis on his own small French-like winery, producing serious styled reds with body and structure. The Chenin Blanc and Straw Wine are both locally and internationally highly acclaimed wines. With a vision for perfection and breaking into the unknown, David is also a member of the Cape Wine Makers Guild (CWG).
